How We’re Showing Up For Our Community in 2020

The end of each year is a perfect time to reflect on what is going right and what could be going better in your life, your career and with your documentary filmmaking goals.

It is often around this time – late November and until the end of the year – that we begin to process and consider if we’re living in alignment with what we want for ourselves and what we intend to achieve with our lives.

We prioritize and we consider.

What is making us happy?

What isn’t serving us?

What do we want more of in our lives?

What (or who) would we like to remove ourselves from?

How could our time and intention be best spent?

Have you had these conversations with yourself yet this year?

We’re sure they aren’t far away.

For us some of the big questions that dominate our minds right now are:

How can we show up for our community in the best way possible?

What part of our business and our lives do we enjoy, and want to do more of, and what would we like to do less of?

What do we want 2020 (the start of a whole new decade!) to look like?

And truthfully, it took us sitting down and having honest conversations with ourselves and each other to determine the answers.

This is what we discovered…

We love creating content that helps and inspires people. After all, this is the very essence and foundation on which The Documentary Life was built.

However, after three years of focusing on content creation – blog, podcast and The Documentary Academy – it feels like time for us to go even further and deeper in supporting our community’s filmmaking dreams.

But how?

Alongside this we considered where WE get the most from helping filmmakers. Where we come alive and give our best support to our community.

The answer was obvious and staring at us the whole time.

When we speak with our community face-to-face.

Wow! What a realization that was.

That when we really stopped and thought about it THAT was where we felt most fulfilled and had the biggest impact on our community.

Whether that be through our #doclifer elite mastermind, online or in-person workshops, those were the times over the past three years when we had been able to share our full and authentic message and knowledge and make REAL CHANGE in people’s lives.

This was an amazing discovery for us.

And one that will shape how we show up for our community in 2020 and beyond.

And this is how it will look:

Crowdfunding for Your Documentary Film

Is a program which takes enrollees step-by-step, from start to finish, through the creation of a successful crowdfunding campaign.

How we’re showing up

As well as the program modules, resources and worksheets a huge component of how we will be supporting our enrollees will be the 6 weeks of live coaching calls and Q&A’s. We will literally be there every step of the way to guide and support our filmmakers to build their crowdfunding campaigns.

Program opens on Wednesday 27th November.

The Documentary Academy

is our flagship A-Z of documentary filmmaking program. Up until now the whole program was content based and self-guided. Truthfully, the effects of that were not good enough for us. We have realised that our enrollees need more support and we’re going to offer that to them.

How we’re showing up

As of January 6th 2020, all members of The Documentary Academy and all future enrollees will be welcomed into a private community group where we will be active daily in supporting our filmmakers. We want to get to know everyone’s projects and help them overcome any hurdles that are standing in their way.

Enrollment opens March 2020.

The Documentary Life Workshops

are a new addition to how we will support our community members. Having run several in-person workshops over the last few years we know the impact and positive results that they can have. Filmmakers mindsets, abilities and, subsequently, films have taken huge steps forward due to our time working together.

How we’re showing up

We want to reach more people and have an even bigger impact on our filmmakers in 2020. We will be running online workshops from Wednesday 11th December 2019 and in-person workshops throughout the whole of 2020. If you’re stuck or need support with your film we highly recommend you attend at least one of these workshops to help get yourself unstuck and your film on the road to completion.

We will be releasing our full schedule on Thursday 5th December, 2019.

    Hi Folks,

Thanks for the efforts! Curious for sure.

Do want to ask you about this:

“As of January 6th 2020, all members of The Documentary Academy and all future enrollees will be welcomed into a private community group…Enrollment opens March 2020.

There’s two dates there, can you clarify a little bit?

    Thanks!
    Matt

Hi Matt, I can see why that would be confusing! The January 6th date is for anyone who is currently a member. They will be invited into a private community group for additional support as they work through The Academy. The March 2020 date is when The Academy will be next open for enrollment. We only open it once or twice a year. Hope that helps! ~ Stephanie
